The present
The folk ensemble TOPĽAN consists of dancing and music sections. These two are formed by approximately 40 members with an average age of 18.
The dancing teacher is Tatiana ŠVAČOVÁ, a long-acting member of the ensemble.
Since the establishment, the ensemble has been preserving a lot dances and songs from the Šariš and Zemplín regions. The presented programme is characterized by pair dances such as Šariš polka, czardas, verbung, Šariš and Zemplín songs and melodies. The overall impression is completed by the šariš folk costumes typical for the region of the Upper Šariš.

The music section is led by the director of the Basic Art School Mgr. Peter Zajac. This dulcimer music presents itself at different events and it represents also the singing section of the ensemble.
The founder of the ensemble is the Municipal Office in Giraltovce. The team works closely with the Department of Culture that together with the local authorities support the ensemble in preserving and spreading customs and traditions of our ancestors. The main financial support is derived from the ensemble founder.
The ensemble annually takes part in approximately 50-60 events at home and abroad as well. During the 35 year existence, a lot of dancers, musicians and singers have left and come into the ensemble. At the present, the ensemble includes also the descendants of the previous generation. The members meet every Friday in the culture house in Giraltovce.
